Hey Y’all, we’re Cory & Gina Mitchell, better known as The Beard & The Gal! We are a husband and wife with southern influence & Midwestern roots, who love spending time together in the kitchen creating delicious food. In July of 2020 we closed our restaurant in Nashville, TN and moved home to be near family and to welcome our baby boy, Nash. We also had lots of ideas and big dreams of turning this silly business idea into a reality. We want to be a part of a community built on the idea that food can bring people together in a very meaningful and special way. After moving all over the place, we thought home sounded like the best place to give this business a shot.

We met in Holland in 2016. Gina had just moved home from St. Louis after being gone for 9 years, and Cory had recently moved to Holland from Nashville to spend the summer with his mom who had recently moved and built a house here. Gina was born & raised in Zeeland/Holland area and Cory grew up in the southeast in a military family. After meeting we realized we both lived in Nashville and worked across the street from each other in The Gulch at the same time, but never met. Prior to meeting Gina lived in Chicago, Nashville and St. Louis. Cory lived in Madison, Cincinnati and Athens. After our 2nd crazy busy summer in Michigan, we both got job opportunities in San Diego, so after a year and a half in Michigan we decided to make the big move to San Diego. Cory helped start a vegan restaurant in Pacific Beach, and later joined Gina in Ocean Beach where they worked for Social Syndicate on the beach.

After getting engaged, we got another opportunity to go back and work together at the restaurant that Gina helped open in Nashville. It was hard to leave all of our friends and our favorite place on earth, but we made the decision to move to Nashville. We ended up becoming the Operating Partners, rebranded the restaurant and created an all day brunch concept.

Now here we are 6 years later, right back where it all started. The beard & The Gal was created so that we could not only serve our community in a variety of ways, but also for us to be able to do a variety of things we love under one umbrella. After working 16 hour days, 6 days a week for 10 plus years in a brick and mortar setting, we’re excited to have our work week mixed up with production, private events, catering, the farmers market and raising our sweet boy. We’re so excited about how far we’ve come in such a short time, and for the outpouring of love and support we’ve received in all areas of our business. We couldn’t do this without y’all.

The Beard & The Gal is known for their southern brunch, however they also created a line of bread to enjoy with their food and to create your own dishes with using our breads, dips & schmears! We offer pick up from all of our farmers markets, home delivered, restaurant quality family style meals, private in home events and catering. You can also find us at the Holland Farmers Market every Wednesday and Saturday from 8am to 2:00pm, and at the Fulton Market every Friday from 8am to 2pm. We sell a variety of our items at every farmers market like our sourdough bread & bagels, flatbread, buttermilk potato rolls, herb sourdough focaccia, cinnamon rolls, white cheddar pimento cheese, hot brunch and so much more.
